How to Have Easy Ideas
Want an easy way to have new ideas for inventions? Dreaming
up new inventions is fun, and it doesn't have to be difficult.
Try the following two techniques. Soon you'll have all the ideas
you need.
1. Start with What's There
A great way to create new inventions is to look at what already
exists and find a way to make it better. Start with things in
your own home. These types of inventions may even be the most
marketable ideas - consider how many new kitchen gadgets are
sold every year.
Consider the toaster, for example. How could you improve it,
replace it, or eliminate the need for it? You could designed
a stove with a toaster built into it, or replace it with something
like a waffle iron. You could make it faster, perhaps with a
combination toasting element and microwave heater.
Look around the house and choose any item you see. Imagine
if it was bigger, smaller, faster, slower, or different in some
way. As I write this, I am looking at the calculator on my desk.
I'd like to talk to it, to just say, "Mortgage payment,
$140,000 loan, fifteen-year amortization, six point five percent
interest rate." It would answer, "$1219.56 per month."
With existing voice-recognition technology, this is possible.
Here's an easy way to create a lot of new invention ideas
fast. Make a list of everything in your home and yard. Work your
way down the list, thinking of a way to improve or reinvent each
item. If no ideas come to mind, move on to the next item on the
list after a minute or two.
2. Use What Irritates
What bothers you? Do you hate how the ice builds up on the
edge of your roof, or get annoyed with the way the dog slops
his water and food all over the kitchen floor? Annoying and irritating
things are not just problems, but opportunities for easy ideas
for new products and inventions.
Tired of burning your tongue on hot coffee? How could you
eliminate this irritation? Maybe a cup with a built-in thermometer
that shows green once the coffee has cooled enough? Perhaps a
cooling device, like a small fan that blows across the coffee
when the cup is set on the device?
Tired of brushing your teeth so often? Invent a Teflon-like
coating that could be applied to teeth, so food wouldn't stick.
If it was anti-bacterial, you might avoid plaque even after days
without brushing.
Look at what is around you and imagine small or large improvements
- it is that easy. It also isn't difficult to train yourself
to look at problems as opportunities. You can use dozens of other
techniques that will give you invention ideas, but these two
simple ones will get you started, and give you a hundred new
ideas today.
